The digital version of the Student Guide was made available in the academic year 2011 | 2012. The main reasons for this change are the severe economic situation, and the required budget restraint, to be environmental-friendly and be more attractive and dynamic to our target audience.

MASTER IN NANOCHEMISTRY AND NANOMATERIALS

This cycle of studies aims at providing a Master level education in Nanomaterials and Nanochemistry, contributing to the assertion of the University of Madeira (UMa) in this field and also to the collective effort that is being done in Portugal and in Europe to develop the field of nanotechnology.Thus:

a. It aims to provide a broad and comprehensive knowledge in this field enabling its students to develop and apply new ideas in a R&D&T context. It will also endow students with set of skills that will make them more competitive in the job market;

b. It will increase the degrees on offer, internationalisation and achievement of UMa’s strategic plan;

c.To enhance the interaction between UMa and other universities, research laboratories and companies;

d. It will also be crucial to strengthen research at the University and the international assertion of the Centro de Quimica da Madeira (CQM) in this field of study.

Main Career Options

Holders of a 2nd cycle of studies in Nanochemistry and Nanomaterials should be able to:

Apply their knowledge, and problem solving abilities, in novel or unfamiliar environments within interdisciplinary contexts related to nanochemistry and nanomaterials;

Apply key concepts in Nanochemistry to the field of materials;

Integrate knowledge, deal with complex situations, propose solutions and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, including reflections on ethical, social and environmental responsibilities linked to the outcome of their proposed solutions and judgments;

Work in group and in an interdisciplinary environment bridging the diverse fields of knowledge;

Report their findings, knowledge and inherent reasoning both to experts and laypeople in a clear and unambiguous way;

Pursue further training autonomously and to take responsibility for their own professional development;

This Master program will answer to the needs of academia and industry in terms of knowledge, qualified manpower and scientific entrepreneurship in the field of Nanochemistry and Nanomaterials. It will also contribute to open the door to a next-generation of educated people.”

Admission Requirements

+ Holders of a degree, or legal equivalent, in the field or in related fields of study;

+ Holders of a foreign higher education academic degree conferred following a 1st Cycle of studies, organised according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State that has adhered to this Process;

+ Holders of a foreign higher education academic degree that is recognised as meeting the objectives of a degree in the field or in related areas, by the Scientific Council of the Master’s degree;

+ Are also eligible the candidates who present a relevant scientific and professional curriculum vitae to attend this cycle of studies and recognised as such by the Scientific Council of the Master.

  1. Motivation letter in English;
  2. Copy of the Identity Card | Citizen Card | Passport;
  3. Copy of the Taxpayer Identification Number (only for Portuguese citizens who do not present the citizen card);
  4. Full curriculum vitae preferably in the Europass format;
  5. Copy of the diploma and transcripts of completed courses and grades (when applicable it should be sent copies of the originals and authenticated translations of the documents into English);
  6. Other documents that the candidate deems useful to demonstrate their qualifications and curriculum;
  7. Two signed letters of recommendation;
