The specialisation course in Family Therapy and Systemic Intervention aims to: develop the student's specific skills in the family therapy and systemic interventions; to acquire a greater reflection and questioning skills about their intervention with families, networks and social groups and to build their own identity as family and systemic therapists.


The specificity of this specialisation course and the nature of the collaboration with the Portuguese Association of Family Therapy (SPTF – “Sociedade Portuguesa de Terapia Familiar”) requires this course to take place intensively once a month for two days (one Friday and one Saturday), totalling 16 hours, with a small group of students (14-16).

Main Career Options

The students upon the completion of this specialisation course will be endowed with an analysis and critical reflection skills; Development and improvement of clinical and therapeutic techniques that will allow an appropriate intervention to different situations concerning families and social networks; Competences and individual autonomy to structure, develop and evaluate a systemic and family intervention.

Access Requirements

+ A 1st Cycle of Studies in Psychology, Social Service, Nursing, Medicine and other Degrees in the same field of study.

+ Post-graduate studies in Systemic Interventions and Family Therapy by UMa/ SPTF or other training course in Systemic Interventions and Family Therapy by the SPTF.

b. Posting of the provisional list of admitted applications and placement: 30 September;

c. Deadline for complaints regarding the provisional lists of admitted applications and placement: 3 October;

d. Posting of the final placement list: 4 October;

e. Enrollment and Registrations: 6 - 7 October;

f. Start of Classes: 7 October.

Applications take place at the Academic Affairs Unit, with prior verification of the application process in the Student Support office , Penteada University Campus. The documents required are:

  3. Copy of the Qualifications' Certificate;
  4. Other documents that the applicant deems useful to provide evidence of their qualifications and curriculum.
