O Guia do Aluno foi disponibilizado em versão digital a partir do ano letivo 2011|2012. Os motivos para esta alteração aliam a necessidade de contenção orçamental, o fator ambiental e, fundamentalmente, a atratividade pelas Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação por parte do nosso público-alvo, fruto do seu dinamismo e facilidade de disseminação.

The PhD program in Automation and Instrumentation, in the field of Electrical Engineering, has the primary goal of contributing to graduate highly qualified researchers with competencies to conduct autonomous research projects at the university and in the economic sector. It promotes the acquisition of high-level knowledge and competencies in the field of automation and instrumentation, related to control and monitoring systems, systems for energy conversion, optical fibre and instrumentation of telecommunications. The doctoral program is divided into two components: a coursework stage in the first year and an original thesis to be conducted in the following two years. The completion of the first year of the doctoral program gives its participants an advanced studies diploma and great flexibility concerning the diversity of its target audience. The doctorates in Electrical Engineering are expected acquire the scientific skills referred in Decree Law 74/2006, March 24th.

Admission Requirements

Those who meet the following requirements may apply to the third cycle of studies in Automation and Instrumentation (cf. Decree-Law No. 74/ 2006, of 25th March, republished by Decree-Law No. 115/2013, of o7th August):

a. Holders of a Master’s Degree in Automation and Instrumentation or legal equivalent;

b. Holders of a degree who present a relevant academic or scientific curriculum to attend this cycle of studies and acknowledged as such by the Scientific Council;

c. Holders of a relevant academic, scientific or professional curriculum to attend this cycle of studies and acknowledged as such by the Scientific Council.

Each PhD programme has specific admission requirements. For further information please refer to article 1 of this PhD specific Regulation.
